So anyway, the birthday!! My husband had to work in the evening the day of their birthday so we didn't do much on the actual day. If I remember correctly, it was like 90+ degrees that day and WAY too humid to do any of the things we had planned (park, pool, getting ice cream) during the day. That evening, the boy's grandparents came over to have a mini birthday party so at least the day was a little special. I'm not sure the boys cared, but they loved the streamers and balloons and cupcakes!
Their big birthday celebration came a week later. We had our family and friends over for a big party outside. When I say big, I mean like 40ish people. And a chance of thunderstorms. And my 1100 square foot house. And probably 1/3 of those people being little kids. Do you see where I'm going with this? I was silly in thinking I don't really need to clean the house too much, everyone will be outside! Ha. For about 20 minutes, all of those 40 people were crammed into my tiny kitchen and living room as it poured outside. It was fun, and a little chaotic for a bit, but the kids played and had a blast and no one commented on the disaster that was my kitchen. Once the rain passed, we headed back out and continued the party!
I designed some little onesies for the boys and my mother-in-law made them happen with heat transfer vinyl. They were adorable and so white and clean, for about 10 minutes. Oh well!
It was a good day. The boys had a blast. I'm thinking from here on out, a little simpler of a party. It was fun, but a lot of work!
Anyway, on to milestones!
We had their one year check up a few weeks after their birthday and we got nothing but good reports. I have to give honor where honor is due: thank you Jesus for two healthy, growing boys! Maverick weighed 20.5 pounds and was just short of 30 inches. He's grown so much and you would never know that he was less than 5 pounds at one point! He's still a pound and a half behind his "little" bro, who weighs in at 22 pounds even and 30.5 inches tall. My Tuck Tuck is a big boy! He's not super heavy or fat, but he just seems to be built like a tank. Long legs, broad shoulders. If you looked at him you would think he weighed more than just a pound and a half above his brother. Tucker has his front 8 teeth and all four one-year molars have recently popped through. Mav has two top and two bottom... I think. He hates it when I check.
They are learning new things every day. Not the cute, lets-take-a-picture kind of new things. The kind that leave my house looking like a tornado and leave me wondering how those stinkers figure this stuff out! They know which drawers or cabinets don't have locks, they know how to get the lid off the garbage can, they know to run to the bathroom if someone leaves the door open, and they know that if a toy is close enough, they can use it as a stool to climb on the couch/end table/bookshelf. They are just all over, into everything, all the time! They want nothing to do with toys, unless its dumping the bin of them. They love to unplug EVERYTHING. Like the vacuum, while I'm using it. They are just fascinated with anything that they aren't supposed to have. They are really keeping me busy!
But they are sweet, and cute, and I can't ever stay mad at them. They both were giving me the
They both love their binkies and love to steal them from each other. If Mavy finds one on the floor, he has to pick it up and put it in his mouth, even if he already has one. Sometimes he will sit there switching back and forth, like he's trying to decide which one is better. They also love their milk! I get followed around by two panting puppies if I even mention the word milk. They are becoming a little pickier with food, but still eat a decent variety of foods. Fruit is by far their favorite thing: grapes, bananas, and watermelon, especially. They can be fickle... one day they love something and the next they won't touch it. Asserting their independence, I suppose. They love to throw whatever is on their tray that they don't like. It's my least favorite thing that they do. I don't know why it aggravates me so much. Actually, I do... it's because once I clean them up and let them out of their high chair, they go and eat whatever is on the floor! Why couldn't you just eat it when it was on your tray?!?!?!?UGH!
They are a handful for sure. I feel like age one was so magical with Easton. Maybe that was because there was only one of him? I don't know. I don't remember him keeping me this busy. I guess he had a constant change of scenery that I can't always provide with the twins. Easton would be at his grandma's during the day and then when we had him home we could do all sorts of stuff with him. With the twins, they are home with me a lot and I think they honestly just get bored. It's so hard for me to even take them outside by myself cause they, again, are into everything they aren't supposed to. They climb the stairs to the deck, they pull my flowers, they throw the mulch... they hardly touch the toys!
It makes me smile though, just thinking about it. I guess I wouldn't have them any other way. They are little boys... curious, adventurous, and always on the go!
I made this slideshow for their first birthday, so enjoy! What a year!
